Our Projects

Harugongo Community Development Organisation (HACODO) implements community livelihood projects especially targeting poor women and youth. We support these vulnerable groups to expand their livelihood choices and increase productive assets from which they obtain sustainable incomes. HACODO’s livelihood program is premised on the development of the agriculture sector, the mainstay of Uganda’s economy and a leading employer of the rural poor. Our work in agriculture is hinged on  two major pillars, Sustainable Production and Farmer Capacity Strengthening.

Sustainable Production

Harugongo Community Development Organisation promotes sustainable farming in poultry and apiary production, Onion and banana growing and goat rearing.

Farmer Capacity Strengthening

HACODO collaborates with expert agriculture trainers in the areas of coffee and banana growing, poultry, apiary and goat farming to infuse farmer knowledge. Farmer capacity strengthening is a way to build a knowledge based economy from the grassroots.

EDUCATION:
Because of the large number of orphans in the community and the weaknesses in the public education system, the HACODO Orphanage Care Nursery & Primary School has recently been established to serve both orphans and private students. Located in a nine room building near the HACODO Health Centre, the school provides classes for Nursery School and Primary levels 1-5. It is hoped that its ready access to the Health Centre will bring about improvements in the children’s health. Every child is given one meal a day, a service which is not provided in the public school system.
Please consider making a donation: your gift will go towards: Feeding the children;Buying school supplies;Buying uniforms and books and Constructing classrooms and dormitories

LIVELIHOODS:

Building the assets and livelihoods of poor communities strengthens their capacities to be self reliant in the future and be able to completely alleviate poverty, ignorance and disease. Support a poor family with a dairy goat to improve infant nutrition and own a valuable asset and income source. You can also support women and young people to achieve financial inclusion by building and strengthening micro-finance associations.
